My New Haircut!

I know, I know!.. It seems like you've seen a lot of people shaving a side of their hair off, right?!  Because I've noticed this trend for a couple of years now, especially during my "tumblr" days.  So when Rihanna cut her hair like this, I initially wasn't surprised or just amazed by it.  UNTIL... I kept seeing pictures of her shaven head posted on my Instagram feed and everywhere else.  That's when I fell in love and decided I had to cut my hair! (but clearly my section of shaved hair is not as large as hers lol)  I even had friends that told me not to cut it because they thought it was 'played out', but I thought to myself.. "who do I know or actually have seen in person with their hair like this?"  Of course my answer was "no one."  So I proceeded to the bathroom with my shears in hand!

This is the first day I cut it, but I eventually cut it more into a 'fade', which is in the picture below.

Now, for those with professional careers who need a more conservative look for work.. I have the solution.  I too can't wear my hair like this all the time to work.  That's the reason why I cut a smaller section than most people, because I can easily pull hair down from above this section and cover it up.  I promise, it's super easy and no one at work would ever know.  My dad actually got a little upset when I cut it because he thought it wasn't professional enough for work.. very quickly I reassured him it would cover up lol.

Okay, I know there are a lot of people out there that are truly scared to cut their hair.  That's fine.  It's so many ways to achieve this same look, by slicking back the side of your hair.  You can even do a braid or twist on one side.  I'll even do a post on different ways to achieve this look without cutting your hair.

But for now.. I hope you enjoyed this quick blog update!

Bright & Suttle Hair Color

My favorite color in the whole wide world is.... Purple of course! So why not color my hair purple? (Rhetorical Question)

I love to change up my look with various colors of hair, but for the past year and a half I've been growing my orangish/blonde hair out so it can become more healthy. What allows me to keep being creative with my hair color at this point in time, are temporary colors (some people may call them rinses or semi-permanent). Yet, those are not the only solutions to my hair coloring addiction! I also use bright colored hair extensions that are located at various beauty supply stores for super cheap.

First, I'll explain this picture to my left. My natural hair color is a dark brown that has grown out tremendously, but the ends of my hair still have a little bit of blonde on them. So, I decided to purchase this Adore Semi-Color in the shade Purple Rage. Although it is a very bright purple, I knew it wouldn't completely show up on my dark brown hair. On the other hand, it does give my hair a purple tint in the sunlight or a well lit room which looks really cool. The rinse also showed up on my blonde ends more of a burgundy purple which also looked nice. So I was very satisfied on how it turned out, and people actually notice it too.

Oh and don't mind me being in my car lol

Now, here's another option for those people who don't want to give their hair a colored tint, or want to try out both like myself on the picture to the right. Okay, the purple tint just wasn't enough color for me. So, my friends gave me some left over purple hair extensions that they made clip-in pieces out of. You can easily make clip-in pieces out of the extensions and place them anywhere you would like on your head. Instead, what I did was use bonding glue and placed a couple of pieces under my bangs and behind my ear to give myself a 'peek-a-boo' effect. This made my purple hair stand out much more. Using bonding glue can last a couple of weeks in your hair, but if you only want color for a day then clip-ins would suite you much better.

Putting a little bit of color in your hair can be super fun.  Don't let people talk you out of it or make you think that you'll look 'hood', 'ghetto, 'rock-starish'.. because remember--the way you carry yourself and act is how you will be perceived.  I hope this gives you some inspiration to change your look up and become a bit more adventurous!

Styling your hair with bandanas..

We all have bad hair days, but no worries lol... there are solutions!  The usual way most people deal with bad hair days are to wear hats.. But not everyone is a hat person.  So, what I do most of the time is wear bandanas.  In these pictures.. I've recently taken down my sewn in weave, but I haven't had time to style my hair.  I don't like showing the nape area of my head if i need a relaxer (or in other words 'I don't like showing my kitchen area of my head when it's nappy' lol). I also wear these when i have extensions and want to wear a ponytail or bun.. a bandana can hide the tracks around your hairline.  So, if you have the same problems.. Check out the steps below and then different ways you can wear the front of your hair with bandanas.

First, fold your bandana like shown in the first block of the picture (you can also fold it one more time in half to make it thinner than what is shown in the photo).  Then, put it around your head and tie it in a knot. I know.. It's super easy :)

These are example of how you can change up the front of your hair
1. You can tuck the ends of the bandana in (if you don't like them sticking out)
2. A flat twist
3. A French or African braid
4. A hump
5. Bangs (of course!)

New Year's Eve Looks!!

I've thought of two New Year's Eve looks that are totally different from each other.. sooo here they go!

This first look seems pretty simple, but sometimes that's the best way to style your hair.  This hairstyle is great to have when you want your outfit to stand out or for people to focus more on your face and makeup.  You should remember that you're hair can overpower your outfit sometimes, especially if you've got a lot going on with your makeup and clothes.  If you don't want to wear the bun to the side, pulling it straight to the back of the nape of your neck will also look good.  On this picture, I've slicked my hair down with a little bit of gel and brushed it into a ponytail with a bristle brush.  Then, I wrapped my ponytail around the rubber band and pinned the ends of my hair.  (I'll show a step-by-step picture tutorial one day).  Hopefully you get the idea.  So, pull that hair back so we can see that face girl!

You still can be gorgeous with this simple slick side bun.

Now, for the second look.  BIG, Curly, Hair!  I love to wear curls, and you will never really catch me with my hair straight.  As you can see, this look is the opposite of the first one.  When you want to wear your hair like this, your outfit can be a simple, solid colored, tight dress. ( I know most of y'all have one).  But seriously, if you want to look "sexy" (lol) on New Years Eve, then curls are right for you.  Not just any curls though, you have to run your fingers through them and shake them out to make your hair bigger.  Also, I know some people don't like to wear a middle part, but it's a strong look that will make you look 'less girl next door' if you know what I mean. (;  To achieve these curls, I used my flat iron, but you can still use a curling iron if that's easier.  Oh, and don't forget to spray your hair with some kind of hair spray or holding spray because I know you'll be getting a little tipsy, and you don't want the curls to be gone before the countdown!

These looks are just ideas of how you can wear your hair, not necessarily tutorials on how to achieve the look.  I hope you like these two looks and have a great New Year!

Quick Tip: A simple way to use less heat when straightening hair..

I know the majority of us love to straighten our hair, but it's pretty obvious it can be damaging if we do it too much.  So, to help relieve your hair from so much heat.. using the hood dryer or letting your hair air dry will help.  I'm sure you want to blow dry your hair and move on to the next task (because I am always the first to pick up my blow dryer), but using a blow dryer and then a flat iron is a lot of heat (and we all know too much heat can be pretty damaging).  I'm not saying this will allow you to flat iron your hair more often, but using the blow dryer less and the hood dryer more is way better.
